One-Appointment Porcelain Crowns

Porcelain crowns are a wonderful, attractive alternative to old-fashioned metal crowns. Metal crowns can give the appearance of having blue teeth, whereas porcelain crowns are natural and lifelike, durable, and long lasting.

At Dream Smile Dental, we can beautify your smile with a ceramic porcelain crown on the same day you walk through our doors for the very first time. We use a procedure that incorporates the latest equipment in ceramic crown technology. First, we prepare the tooth for the new crown. We then scan it with an electronic camera, and the patient is able to see the resulting image on a video monitor. The scanned image is converted to information that the computer uses to mill the new crown from a solid block of ceramic material. The new crown is then bonded to the existing tooth structure, and the patient leaves with a new smile.

Metal Free Fillings and Restorations
Chances are if you open your mouth and look way back you are going to find a few metal fillings in your mouth. The metal used to fill teeth is an "amalgam" of silver and mercury, a substance created back during the time of the Civil War. Over time, the fluctuations in metal caused by eating hot and cold foods can cause the fillings to actually crack the teeth they were intended to protect, allowing for further decay.

The most desirable procedure today for filling a cavity is to use an inlay or an onlay. Made of porcelain or resin, inlays and onlays not only look natural, but also actually restore teeth to their original strength or better! Teeth that once appeared gray from silver/mercury amalgams are made to look new, and poisonous mercury is removed from the patient's mouth.

Aesthetic Metal Free Bridges

Accidents happen. Anyone can lose a tooth or multiple teeth for any number of reasons. Of course, the result is never flattering, and can actually cause the remaining teeth to drift out of position. Even worse, people lose their confidence to smile when they lose teeth. In the past, the solution has been to have missing teeth replaced with a bridge restoration. However, most bridges were (and still are) constructed with porcelain fused to metal. The only problem is that you can see the metal-above the teeth at the gum line and through the teeth in bright light. Needless to say, the result is less than ideal.

Dream Smile Dental has the ideal solution. We replace missing teeth using 95% porcelain bridges only. The new porcelain "tooth" is fitted and fused between two porcelain crowns. The two crowns are then permanently affixed onto the teeth on either side of the gap. The resulting restoration will last and last. So will the resulting beauty.

Rivaling Nature With Veneers
Are your teeth irreparably worn, chipped, cracked, gapped or stained? If so, then veneers may restore your smile to its original beauty. Designed to cover the existing surface of the tooth, a veneer, also referred to as a laminate, is constructed entirely of porcelain. It is naturally strong, stain-resistant, and lifelike. Veneers can be used to improve the shape of the teeth, cover hopelessly stained teeth, and repair gaps and cracks.

If you've been dreaming of your perfect smile, nothing else comes close to the natural beauty of porcelain veneers. You'll never be able to tell that the veneers aren't your natural teeth, and neither will anyone else!

Smile Whitening

The problem is common. When asked, most people will tell you that they think their smile could be brighter. Whether you're a smoker, a coffee drinker, or enjoy a glass or two of Merlot every evening, you probably feel the same way. However, you always felt that you just had to live with it. Those days are in the past.

Dream Smile Dental was the first practice in Massachusetts to offer Brite Smile, the only laser tooth whitening procedure approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The process is truly state-of-the-art, not some off-the-shelf bleaching process that takes weeks to complete with uncomfortable mouth trays and barely noticeable results.

Instead, your teeth are transformed to their natural brilliance in as little as one hour, usually on a magnitude of 8 shades of white or greater! And the process is simple. First, we take a "before" photo of your teeth. Then the whitening gel is applied to the teeth and activated with a special gas plasma light for three 20-minute applications. Finally, we rinse your teeth, take the "after" photo, and knock your socks off. You've got the smile of a movie star!

High Tech Gum Care

Recent studies show that as many as 85% of all Americans - roughly 238,000,000 people - have some form of periodontal disease. But, if your gums bleed when you floss, or if you don't floss at all, you probably have it.

Left untreated, periodontal disease can cause anything from tooth decay and tooth loss to gingivitis and severe gum recession. These conditions are all brought on by the build up of calculus (tartar) below the gum line. Buildup of tartar causes diseased "pockets" to form in the gums where bacteria and microorganisms collect and decay the surrounding gum tissue and tooth structure.

Dream Smile Dental takes great care and utilizes the most recent technologies to combat periodontal disease. In conjunction with standard cleaning procedures, we recommend a procedure called ultrasonic scaling for our high-risk patients. In this procedure, the hard tartar material is dissolved away by our hygienists using an ultrasonic scaling tool. The process is quick and painless, and, when done regularly with a daily flossing routine, can virtually eliminate the risk of disease.

Instant Orthodontics
Did you ever see someone with perfectly straight teeth? You certainly don't see people like that every day, and you meet even fewer whose teeth are naturally straight. Most of us have teeth that need help to grow into their most beautiful, functional positions. Even as adults after the childhood braces are long gone, our teeth can grow crooked or gapped when wisdom teeth erupt.

Braces for adults aren't always the best alternative, though. Your wedding may be coming up. Or, you may be a candidate for a high-paid position with a prospective employer. Many of us don't really think about how crooked our teeth are until a potentially life changing event confronts us.

Fortunately, however, braces are no longer the only alternative. In fact, the smile designers at Dream Smile Dental can straighten your teeth to their natural positions in as little as three visits to our office. What used to take two years to straighten can literally be corrected in two weeks. It's all done with porcelain veneers, adding strength and beauty to your existing teeth.

Invisible Braces
Seeing an adult in braces is no longer a shocking sight. Whatever the reason, their teeth have shifted over time, and they want a straight, beautiful smile. Unfortunately, most adults hate the "metal-mouth" look, feeling it impacts their appearance and confidence.

Times have changed, however, and new technologies have emerged. With Invisalign, it is now possible to straighten teeth without the use of ugly metal braces. Instead, a series of transparent removable appliances are fitted to your teeth to bring them back into their proper bite.

When worn full-time, the appliances, also called aligners, move your teeth ever so slightly over time. New aligners are fitted as the treatment progresses, but you'll hardly even know you're wearing them. Neither will anyone else. They're effective, convenient and attractive. They're the perfect way for adults to straighten their teeth!

Digital X-Rays
Most people get a little uneasy when the dentist leaves the room or stands behind a protective barrier to take x-rays of their teeth. It is true that the dosages of radiation released in a conventional dental x-ray are minimal, but repeated exposures over time could be a cause for concern.

DreamSmile Dental uses nothing but the latest in dental x-ray technology. The most recent breakthrough has been the advent of digital x-rays, which have proven to be an invaluable tool for dentists everywhere. The first thing people usually ask is, "How safe are they?" The answer is very safe. In fact, digital x-rays use 90% less radiation than conventional x-rays, so any element of risk has been virtually eliminated.

Digital x-rays appear instantly on the computer monitors in our treatment rooms, and the technology allows for more precise magnification than that of conventional x-rays. That means that we get a better view of not only the teeth, but also the roots, bone and tissue. It also means that our patients get a better visual frame of reference on the health of their teeth. The images can be magnified, enhanced and colorized to highlight areas of concern. Problems are easier to see and detected far earlier than with standard technology.
